Emotional Setback: Jacky Cheung’s Struggle Stuns Fans at Dongguan Concert

Fans of Hong Kong singer Jacky Cheung were left in shock on Sunday, August 31, when the music legend nearly canceled his much-anticipated concert in Dongguan, China.

The 64-year-old superstar, performing his 277th show in the 60+ Concert Tour, admitted mid-performance that he was struggling to sing. Speaking in Cantonese, Jacky told the audience:

“I know this is unfair to everyone, every member of the band and all the dancers, they all performed very well, but because of me… I would feel very apologetic if I cancel tonight’s concert. So I want to ask, should I continue singing?”

Despite wanting to give his best, Jacky confessed that he “really wanted to sing, but couldn’t.”

Jacky Cheung Concert Faced with Unexpected Voice Struggle

Throughout the night, Jacky experienced multiple voice breaks, which left him visibly distraught. This vulnerability was uncharacteristic of the seasoned performer, who has entertained audiences for over 41 years.

Originally, the Dongguan shows were scheduled for June 6 to 8 but postponed after backlash over conflicts with China’s national college entrance exam dates. This heightened fans’ anticipation for his return, making his voice difficulties even more heartbreaking.

Still, Jacky remained honest:

“As everyone can see, it was very difficult for me to control my voice at the beginning. I can’t bring myself to accept a concert that I am not fully satisfied with.”

Fans’ Encouragement Kept the Show Alive

Rather than leaving disappointed, fans rallied around the star, cheering him on with shouts of “Don’t give up!” and “You can do it!”. Their encouragement gave Jacky the strength to continue until the end of the show.

In an emotional moment, he assured the crowd:

“When I really can’t sing anymore, you guys can ask for ticket refunds.”

What’s Next for Jacky Cheung?

Despite the emotional setback in Dongguan, Jacky Cheung is scheduled to perform six encore shows at the Singapore Indoor Stadium from November 21 to 23 and November 28 to 30. Fans are hopeful he will recover and return stronger for these highly anticipated performances.

👉 Whether this concert will be remembered as a low point or a testament to Jacky’s resilience, one thing remains clear: his bond with fans is unshakable.
